DraftBay vs GatherContent

Both help teams get website content written and approved. They're built for different sizes of team. Here's an honest look at where each one fits.

Updated October 2026

DraftBay is a website content planning tool for agencies, freelancers and small businesses: sitemap, copy, approval and hand-off in one place, for $19 a month per workspace.

The short answer

GatherContent is a content operations platform. Bynder, the digital asset management company, acquired it in 2022, and it's now sold as Content Workflow by Bynder. It's built around structured content templates, multi-step workflows and publishing integrations, and it's aimed mainly at larger content teams.

DraftBay is smaller and narrower on purpose. It runs one website project from the first sitemap to the hand-off: map every page, get each page's copy written, review and approve it, then hand it to the designer, who marks each page built, with a one-click export too. It costs $19 a month per workspace, with unlimited people.

Where DraftBay is different

  • It starts with the sitemap. Every page of the site sits in one map, and each page shows whether it has copy, who has it, and whether it's approved.
  • Copy stays where your writers already work. A page links to a Google Doc, a SharePoint file or a Word online document. DraftBay tracks status, comments and sign-off around it.
  • Roles that fit a small team. Sitemap manager, writer, reviewer, approver, designer, developer and client. One person can hold several.
  • Website versions. Name what launches now and what comes later. Later versions stay visible but faded, you can move pages between versions, and you mark a version launched when it goes live.
  • A Board that keeps the project moving. DraftBay's checks and its AI find missing pages, pages without copy and copy waiting for approval, and ask the team clarifying questions.
  • Approval you can trust later. Approval is pinned to the version you approved, and a new version goes back for approval. If your designer already has it, they keep building from the approved version. For a linked live document, upload the final file to lock its exact text.
  • Priced per workspace, not per person. $19 a month covers everyone, including clients and freelancers.

When GatherContent is the better choice

DraftBay isn't the right tool for everyone. Content Workflow by Bynder is likely the better fit if:

  • You already use Bynder for digital assets and want content in the same platform.
  • You produce a lot of structured content for many channels, not just one website, and need reusable templates with rules for each field.
  • You want writers to draft inside the tool rather than in Google Docs or Word.
  • You need content to go straight into your CMS today. DraftBay's publish connectors for Webflow, Framer and WordPress are coming soon.
  • Your organisation buys software through an enterprise procurement process and wants a vendor set up for that.

Moving a website project from GatherContent to DraftBay

Start a project in DraftBay and import or rebuild the page tree. Then link each page to its copy. If your copy currently lives inside GatherContent, move it into documents your team can link to (Google Docs, SharePoint or Word online) first. The setup wizard walks you through roles and the first steps, and the Board shows what's still missing.
